Our Work
At READ INDIA, we believe in the power of co-creation with our communities. Establishing a READ Center is not just about a physical space; it’s about fostering a nurturing environment where diverse voices come together. This inclusive hub, particularly focused on empowering women and youth, provides access to vital resources and transformative programmes. Here, community members can enhance their skills, make informed choices for their families, and contribute to building a thriving and resilient community.
READ Centers are vibrant community institutions that work to achieve outcomes across three key areas:
1. Education– Increase access to, usage of, and exchange of, knowledge, information, and resources.
2. Enterprise: Increase economic opportunities
3. Holistic Development: Access to training, personality development programmes and lifelong learning
Our Three Programme Pillars:
Education
Education is the key to empowering communities, especially children, women and girls from marginalised communities. READ India’s education interventions aim to improve reading and writing habits, while also offering courses such as English and digital learning, coaching classes, and early childhood education. More than 50000 children, youth and women have participated in various educational programmes and training conducted at READ Knowledge Centres. Our Interventions through READ centres include:
- Literacy
- Health
- Children’s Programmes
- Youth Support
Enterprise
READ Centers offer educational resources and training programs aimed at creating livelihoods and improving financial literacy. In many rural communities, a significant portion of the population lives below the poverty line. Through READ centres, villagers acquire skills that allow them to earn a living without the need to migrate to urban areas, enabling them to invest in their families and contribute to the development of their communities.
- Livelihood skills training
- Small business skills training
- Sustaining enterprises
Holistic Development
READ Centres play a pivotal role in driving the holistic development of communities by providing access to education, resources, and opportunities that empower individuals across all ages and backgrounds. READ centres go beyond literacy by addressing key areas that contribute to the overall well-being and growth of rural communities:
- Education and Lifelong Learning
- Livelihood Development and Financial Literacy
- Empowering Women and Youth
- Health and Well-Being
- Cultural and Social Enrichment
