Enterprise
READ Community Libraries and Learning Centres(CLRCs) offer educational resources and training programs aimed at creating livelihoods and improving financial literacy. In many rural communities, a significant portion of the population, lives below the poverty line. Through READ centres, villagers acquire skills that allow them to earn a living without the need to migrate to urban areas, enabling them to invest in their families and contribute to the development of their communities. Three key Pillars:
- Livelihood skills training
- Small business skills training
- Sustaining enterprises
READ Knowledge Centres have dedicated space for creating environment and infrastructure for age-appropriate livelihood skills. These skilling programmes are designed keeping in view their interest, qualifications, future commitment to themselves and future opportunities for decent earning with special focus on confidence building and leadership qualities. Financial Literacy is part and parcel of livelihood skills. For semi-literate women, special classes on adult literacy are also organised through community leaders and volunteers. READ India also provides training on branding, packaging and marketing of their products for local selling. READ India is also trying to link these products to India’s marketplaces. We understand the concept of local production and local consumption making one woman, one family, one village endowed with sustainable skills.
During the past six years, READ India has created opportunities for learning various skills in select geographies and villages in 15 states by reaching to more than 60,000 women and girls.
